Software Engineer Intern, Android

• Enhanced the user experience of the Alarm.com Customer App by integrating Offline Device indicators on both the Dashboard and Device Specific screens for all Alarm.com Smart Home/Business Devices. This improvement includes clear indications of offline status and provides users with options for recovery and troubleshooting.

• Collaborated on the .NET application to facilitate the transmission of Offline Status information to mobile clients. Additionally, implemented a Permissions API for Feature Gating, streamlining the testing process for the team.

• Demonstrated proficiency in writing comprehensive unit tests for newly implemented features within the backend .NET application and the Android client.

• Upgraded the Android Permissions API by refactoring the deprecated version to the new runtime Permissions API. This upgrade enabled seamless access to media storage and camera permissions, enhancing the functionality of a myriad of app features.

• Spearheaded the development of the Washington Post Wear App on Wear OS, bringing feature-rich experience including article browsing, article text-to-speech, podcast playback, paywall integration, push notifications, watch face complications, and mobile-wear intercommunication.

• Collaborated in the continuous evolution of the Washington Post app, contributing expertise to enhance its features and performance on both Android and Amazon devices.

• Engineered and integrated a video countdown timer and auto-advancing capabilities into the app's Vertical Video feature, delivering captivating visual storytelling content. This innovation catered to younger subscribers familiar with similar experiences on alternate platforms.

• Designed and implemented Call-to-Action links in the project Immersion Carousel, providing users with an immersive news coverage experience. This initiative resulted in a notable increase in the Click-Through Rate (CTR) for Top Stories, surging from 62% to an impressive 67%, and raised the percentage of users exposed to at least half of the Top Stories headlines from 30% to a significant 40%.
